I am a self-taught ceramic artist from the UK and now living in Dunedin that designs, makes and sells functional pottery for day-to-day use. I have always been really interested in art and crafts, always with a creative project on the go and seeking out craft markets wherever I am. I love to be able to see a little hint of the artist in their final products and I am drawn to expressive and organic pieces with lots of textures and beautiful colours.
Primarily I use a potter's wheel to throw all my pieces and stoneware clay so that it is food safe, durable and strong (not to mention microwave, dishwasher and oven safe!). I tend to only make small batches of items and often take custom orders so that customers can get something unique and personalised. My style is quite expressive with glaze drips, brush strokes and carving or stamping. For me it's important to bring a sense of the handmade process into the finished pieces, those small details that bring handmade items alive so you will see the bare clay, slight wobbly edges, every piece perfectly imperfect.
